Barcelona lose star defender to an injury during Las Palmas clash

Barcelona kicked things off against Las Palmas away at the Gran Canaria just a little while ago and things are already looking for worrisome for them.

After all, the reigning La Liga champions let in a goal just 12 minutes into the contest, with former Barça forward, Munir El Haddadi, doing the honours.

Prior to that moment, though, the Blaugrana were dealt with a major setback as they lost another player to injury.

Indeed, Joao Cancelo, a permanent fixture in the team since his arrival in the summer, had to be withdrawn by Xavi after seemingly picking up an injury.

Just six minutes into the game, the Portuguese defender had a coming-together with Las Palmas’ Maximo Perrone, with the former coming out of it the worst.

Cancelo went off the pitch for some treatment and came back to try and carry on. But, unable to continue, he signaled wanting to be taken off by Xavi, with the manager obliging and replacing him with Andreas Christensen.

Seconds later, the Catalan heavyweights were down by a goal, painting a concerning picture for the team with still a lot of time left to be played.

With Marcos Alonso, Pedri, Gavi, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen already out injured, Barcelona will be hoping that Cancelo’s condition is nothing serious.
