Barcelona president’s latest revenue strategy: Matchday parking at Spotify Camp Nou
As construction on the new Spotify Camp Nou progresses, FC Barcelona are preparing to launch a fresh economic initiative: the rental of underground parking spaces on matchdays.
The revamped stadium will feature 3,000 spaces available for hire, providing a new income stream for the club.
Laporta the driving force
According to Cronica Global (h/t SPORT), Barcelona president Joan Laporta is driving this initiative as part of his ongoing effort to help the club reach its ambitious goal of generating €1 billion in annual revenue.
This move adds to other revenue sources such as ticketing and VIP experiences at the redeveloped stadium, which is expected to be fully operational at some point during the 2026/27 season.
This parking rental plan takes on added importance given the financial losses the club has incurred since relocating to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. The temporary move is costing the club around €100 million per season.
Although an official opening date for the parking facility has not been set, the club’s Director of Sustainability, Jordi Portabella, hopes to align its availability with the partial reopening of the stadium.
That reopening, planned for around September 2025, would allow approximately 60,000 fans to return, just in time for the group stage of the next Champions League campaign.
Work at the Spotify Camp Nou has seen significant progress in recent weeks. Installation of key systems – including drainage, ventilation, air conditioning, and pitch heating—has been completed, and the process of laying the new grass has already begun.
Meanwhile, construction continues on the third tier and its access routes. Temporary infrastructure for matchdays is also being installed, including lighting, Wi-Fi connectivity, and broadcast cameras.
The first batch of VIP seats has already been installed in the lower tier, with the second tier set to follow shortly. These installations are a top priority for the club, which aims to finalise them before 30 June.
Completing this VIP section on time could allow Barcelona to generate an additional €100 million through a related commercial deal.
